Leaving thru Phuket to South Africa by plane

Phuket, Thailand, October 19th-21st  2007   (by Dagmar)

From Satun it took us 7 hours by taxi to get to Phuket. Here we stayed for 2 nights at the Hilton Hotel. We booked thru the internet and got an amazing deal for two nights.

We didn't leave the hotel premises, enjoying the beautiful designed hotel room, the pool area,...

the amazing Thai food in one of the restaurants....After all this traveling we felt really pampered, ...a warm bath, a huge bed, the perfect sleep without moving in the waves,...relaxed....especially, because we had way more traveling in front of us, to reach South Africa in time for Bart's work.

South Africa, October 22nd - November 30th  2007   (by Dagmar)

We left Phuket in the morning of October 21st to fly thru Bangkok and Singapore to Cape Town in South Africa. In Langebaan, 1 hour drive from Cape Town, Bart had to work for the German SURF magazine, testing windsurfing boards and sails of various brands for the season 2008. Soleil and I joined him.

The work for Bart started already from the first day after arrival: The distributors week; with meeting and presentations. The SURF Test-Team is always guest at Esty and Anthony's "Cape Sports Center", in Langebaan.

Whole test team as well as us stayed at their guest house "Puzamoya", a separate room with bathroom for every team member, a living room with kitchen to share. During the distributors week we always have two main dinners with all the producers, board and sail designers, the first one at "Froggy's". He is an amazing cook, famous for his Mediterranean salad and his curries. It's soooo delicious. That this is our favorite place to go during our whole stay in Langebaan.

The second dinner was at "Friday island Beach House", next to the center. Our friends Kyla and Jeff were there for two days, Jeff presenting his new sail design for 2008. We haven't seen them since Maui. How great, that we could spend time together. It's so nice to see very good friends suddenly on the other side of the globe.

But we also had big cooking events at our guest house "Puzamoya". We made "braai", the famous african BBQ event, as well as enjoying all different kinds of fish, especially tuna, which is very affordable here. We made seared tuna, rolled in pepper, had sushi and sashimi. How much better can it get.......yummy....

Soleil was totally into building sand castles.

On several occasions we went to Cape Town, watching magicians and musicians at the Waterfront....

....visiting the Aquarium at the harbor....

...watching "Nemo" swam by, the penguins, the big shark tank, turtles....

....and got caught in a rain storm, so we decided not to visit the "Cape of Good Hope" this time.

But already the next day the weather looked great again, ready to explore "Westkust Nationalpark".

We stayed until November 30th. Then we all traveled back thru Singapore and Bangkok to Phuket in Thailand. From there Bart left with Soleil for our boat in Langkawi/Malaysia and myself for Germany to see my Mom and family. We all will be united in January 2008, when we will continue our travels around the world, leaving Thailand for The Maldives.
